Carve it into stones that all might see and remember


Through the woods, above the flat lands
they stand— 
stone markers prove an inland line
where water once reached.
But six hundred years is a long time. 
They stood forgotten, they fell and
lay unread. 
Such diligent labor, care, and expense for
a distant generation…
those survivors of ocean’s rage
knew only long memory could save their people.

“Tsunami reached this spot.  Do not build past here.”
